So, I'm reviewing the Darke Academy Book One by Gabrielle Poole. Its a teen fiction "novel" (I'd call it novella because its shorter than a...than a...than a...its short...ok?) Ok, so basically it's about a young girl called Cassie Bell, she gains a scohlorship to one of the most prestigous schools in the world, yes you guess it; the Darke Academy! So this book basically charts Cassie's first day to...Christmas time. No not her whole first year! It only goes to Christmas, so that's my first gripe about this tiny book. On the outset, the Darke Academy is just a high end, snobby school complete with 'beautiful' sculptures and paintings. However, not all is as it seems! Surprise, surprise. There's a mysterious group running around the school called The Few. They get out of class to attend 'congresses' and a normal teacher would never cross them! Not too shabby, eh? Well anyway, Cassie is a bit (very) nosy she decides to investigate by running around the school at all hours in the morning, however she's not the only night lurker! So this book is basically, well...boringly good. The language is a bit basic but hey it's a teen 'novel' so what do you expect, however I found the language basic and I am a teen! The story could be a bit darker (as I expected) and the characters could be a bit more fleshed out to make them actually LIKABLE! All in all it's a nice book. Not great but its good.
